“Blue Mythologies: Reflections on a Colour is a visual, literary and cultural study of the colour blue. Blue Mythologies uncloaks blue as a particularly paradoxical colour. The conflicting temperaments of the blues unravel easily - for instance, blue is the purity of the Virgin Mary, yet blue lips are a sign of approaching death.” Carol Mavor.
The earth when photographed from space and the veins in my hands appear blue. As artist Yves Klein stated, “all of the colours go hand in hand with associations of concrete, material and tangible ideas, whereas blue more than anything else is reminiscent of the sea and the sky, the most abstract parts of a tangible, visible nature”. Apart from the depth and range of colours which are so seductive for me, it is this abstract connection with nature and the idea of space that are most appealing for my purposes.
